Most people see nothing but trees and grass in the woodlands lining superhighways. But Andrea sees small people, who call themselves the Bokaaj. She is the 13-year-old hero of Siljeea Magic, a fantasy novel that pits affluent 21st-century culture against a world of spells, wisdom, and power struggles. Andrea is tossed into a series of adventures that wreck her grades, mess up her health, and almost tear her family apart.

Book Life Review of Siljeea Magic

In this adventurous coming-of-age novel, Pratt conjures the magic of little woodland people who teach an upper-middle-class tween girl about environmental care, diversity, and heroism. In light, flowing prose, Pratt evokes the inquisitiveness and innocence of young people of two cultures meeting and sharing their knowledge. Readers of all ages will enjoy this uplifting story of a brave teenage girl making friends and coming into her own identity and purpose.

Dreams, visions, monsters, and a landscape that changes as you walk through it. That’s the Dry Country.

No one crosses the Dry unchanged. If you don’t change, you don’t make it. For those desperate enough to cross the Dry in search of a better life, there are Guides, who can navigate the mirages and transformations that make the Dry so dangerous.

And my newest work-in-progress:

THE SKILL, Magical realism

To be published by Pegasus Publishing, late in 2023!

When you can’t be who your family wants, a magical skill shows you a new path. A novel of romance, magic, and an endangered forest in a mythical Maine.

Casey, bankrupt and deserted by her boyfriend, avoids her successful family by retreating to her grumpy Aunt Cill’s forested property in Maine. Casey needs to redeem herself by finding a good job. But a strange wind destroys her favorite oak tree, and green-gray coyote-like beasts begin to stalk her.

Further up the Maine coast, young Rinne flees from her hidebound island family to avoid a marriage arranged to carry on the family’s magical skill. If she can find her runaway sister, Rinne can return to her beloved island. But she falls in love with a woman–not something her parents will understand.

When those strange winds destroy half the forest, old Aunt Cill collapses. Rinne has the clue to stopping these winds, but when she finally discovers the answer, it might be too late.
